Good Business - Cisco Systems
By James Phillip on Jan 12, 2008 in Good Business
In the Good Business section today we are going to throw some positive feedback out to Cisco Systems. Over the years I have bought enough Cisco equipment to hopefully earn me a few stock options from the board. The only questionable item about Cisco is their stock performance, we all could have hoped for a little more in the bull category!
I have a grave yard of those blue cables some where; you know infamous serial cable that allows you to configure the device right out of the box. I still like the fact that they package it with the correct cable to this day. I have never once received a piece of Cisco equipment that DOA and if I think back really hard over the years I may have had only once piece fail me and that was a Cisco 2600 in a greasy manufacturing environment if my memory serves me correctly.
The key feature about this company that will forever have me coming back is their support. Second to none their support has never failed me even in the most complex network environments. I had times when I called up with some crack shot idea that no one has tried yet they where still able to piece it together and get me out of the hole. The fact is if you know enough to get the config almost working and you have a Cisco contract they will get it running. If you are down, you will be sending out mile long debugs and your device will get back online.
Now the Cisco contracts are a bit pricey, but as long as they keep offering config assistance along with the support for down\trouble tickets, it is worth every penny to renew them every year.
You take a product that has been high quality and consistent for many years coupled with an outstanding support system for their products and I don’t see any reason to purchase another brand when it comes to internetworking devices.
